What is Direct Services?
We provide practical items and resources during moments of transition, helping families respond quickly when life changes fast.
It may be a crib, a bed, a backpack, clothing, shoes, a car seat or other basic items needed to help a child feel safe and cared for.
Because stability starts with the basics, and every child deserves to feel seen, valued and supported.
What help is available?
Direct Services includes backpacks for every child entering care, a free clothing closet, resource requests, One Simple Wish, car seats, and special requests.
Begin Again Backpacks
Every child entering care receives a Begin Again Backpack filled with toiletries, clothing, and personal items. It's more than supplies — it's a first message of dignity during one of the hardest transitions a child may experience.
The Trunk — Clothing Closet
Foster, adoptive, and kinship families can shop free of charge for gently used clothing, shoes, and essentials.
Resource Requests
When a placement happens fast, families often need the basics immediately: beds, dressers, infant items, and bedding. We work to fulfill these requests as quickly as possible so children can enter homes that are ready to support them.
One Simple Wish
Through our partnership with One Simple Wish, youth can request larger, more meaningful items, such as furniture, electronics, and experiences. Community donors can browse and grant wishes directly, turning generosity into something specific and personal.
Car Seat Requests
We provide and install car seats for foster, adoptive, and kinship families. Safety from day one shouldn't be a barrier.
Special Requests
Sometimes families need support that does not fit neatly into one category. Special requests may include camp fees, sports fees, uniforms, household needs or other items that help support placement stability. CMFCAA reviews these requests and does its best to help when resources are available.

How can I help?
Direct Services is made possible by the generosity of our community.
Donated clothing, household items, and financial gifts make it possible for us to say yes when families need it most.
When you donate gently used children's clothing, provide household items or give financially, you help children and families access practical support during important moments of transition.
