What is Family Advocacy?
Family Advocacy provides the steady presence families need to keep going, through early intervention, building skills, and strengthening support systems.
Caring for a child who has experienced trauma, loss or major life changes can be deeply rewarding, but it can also bring challenges families may not be prepared for. Many families find themselves overwhelmed navigating complex behaviors, systems, and decisions.
We help families stay steady so they can focus on what matters most: caring for their child. Whether it's attending meetings, helping create safety plans, finding the right counselors, securing emergency assistance, or simply being someone who listens and stays, our advocates are there.
Which families do we support?
Family Advocacy isn't just for moments of crisis. We're here throughout the journey. We support:
- Traditional foster families navigating behaviors, court processes, and birth family relationships.
- Pre-adoptive families preparing for the realities after the honeymoon phase.
- Post-permanency families when adoption or guardianship brings unexpected challenges.
What can an advocate help with?
No question is too small, and no situation is too complicated. Our advocates can help with:
- Placement stability
- Securing an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Questions from new caregivers
- Communication with your child welfare team
- Finding the right resources
- Mental health and behavioral challenges
- And much more
